Lenovo Legion 7i Review: What I Notice After Real Use

I was fed up with constant frame drops when gaming, slow exports when editing videos, and a laptop that got hot when I pressed the button. My old laptop was unable to support my daily mix of work and gaming, and it began to influence my working process. It was at that point that I decided to test the Legion 7i,  the Lenovo Legion 7i, to see how it holds up in the real-world without having to compromise all the time.

I have been playing games on it, creating videos, and multitasking. I have several apps open at once, switch between tasks, and push myself hard to overwork them. This review will give what I will see after I have applied it in real life, where it works and where it still fails.

Design and Build

Material quality

The Lenovo Legion 7i feels well-built and sturdy with no flex or creaking during normal use. The metal body gives it a premium look, but it picks up fingerprints pretty easily — you’ll notice them after a few hours.

Weight and portability

It’s on the heavier side. It is fine to carry it in a backpack when going on a short trip, but after some time, it becomes tiresome. It is okay to move it around the house, but I just don’t like to take it on long travelling days.

Hinge and keyboard deck feel

The hinge opens smoothly and locks in place wherever you set it — no shaking around. The keyboard deck feels sturdy with minimal flex when typing. The one thing to note is the numpad shift, which takes some time to get used to.

Display & Gaming Experience

Lenovo Legion 7i Gaming

The screen of the Lenovo Legion 7i is sharp and balanced in everyday life. Colours are not too saturated and unnatural, which I like when playing games and editing. The refresh rate is high, thus everything seems smooth. In fast movement scenes, motion clarity is very important.

With gaming, there is no apparent stutter in performance even in long sessions. Even in challenging titles, frame transitions remain the same. The brightness is high indoors and can be used for long hours. When outside, I can hardly see under the sun, and I usually have to seek shelter or change the angle to get a clear view.

Performance

Lenovo Legion 7i Performance

Games and intensive work were tested on the Lenovo Legion 7i to test its capability of withstanding real-life pressure. In games like Cyberpunk 2077, GTA V, and Valorant, the gameplay is smooth with steady frame rates even when playing on high settings. I never had random stutters during the long sessions, and it made the gameplay predictable and stable.

Multitasking would involve having several tabs in Chrome, Adobe Premiere Pro, and background programs at the same time. It was able to carry this load without decelerating. The pressure was only experienced when I was making heavy video exports while switching between heavy apps at the same time.

Thermals & Fan Noise

When playing games, work normallythe Lenovo Legion 7i normally becomes hot at the upper keyboard and the middle. It is not painful at first, but with prolonged usage, the heat is evident on the surface.

The fans kick in under load in a quiet room and can be heard. They are not too distracting, and you will hear them when doing heavy work. When lightly used, the laptop stays pretty silent, and the surface is cool enough to work comfortably.

Battery Life

When doing light work like browsing, writing, and watching videos, I tend to get about 5 to 6 hours before I need to charge my Lenovo Legion 7i. It is comfortable during short working periods, but not during a whole day without a charger. The battery depletes very quickly during gaming. I usually only have between 1.5 and 2 hours, and I feel less productive when I go unplugged.

An incident that stuck with me was when I was having a fast walk outside. I had supposed that I had a few hours of battery life, but it ran out sooner than I expected, and I had to pause halfway.

Real World Usage

Gaming session

I tend to take a seat in the evening to have a quick gaming session. I play in short bursts, and most of the time in competitive games. I stay focused on the gameplay and fast reactions. The laptop stays consistent, and I do not think about performance when the game is on.

Work and productivity day.

I move between writing, browsing, and editing tools on workdays. I have several tabs and applications running simultaneously. I switch between tasks and do not wait to load anything again. It is comfortable when staying in a good workflow.

Travel or mobility

The moment I take it outside, I can feel the weight in my bag. I can be set up quickly when I get to a desk. I make an effort to be close to a charger since I don’t plan to spend a lot of time unplugged on the go.

  •  Fast display feels fluid in use

Cons

  • Noticeable weight during daily carrying
  • The battery drops quickly during gaming and heavy work

Final Verdict

Having played games, edited and used the Lenovo Legion 7i in everyday multitasking, I find it to be a powerful all-purpose performance laptop. It provides consistent gaming performance, fluid productivity, and a high-quality construction that can withstand actual use. I also like the consistency in load, especially during long sessions with many apps open.

It is not perfect. The battery life is mediocre, the fans are loud when running a load, and the weight is felt in everyday carry. However, the trade-off between performance and reliability makes it a good option for me. The Legion 7i is worth it if you want a single laptop that can handle both gaming and work without compromising on either.
