Pixie, Google’s new artificial intelligence assistant for Pixel smartphones, will be able to use the robust Gemini Nano model to carry out tasks even when the internet isn’t available. This launch could be timed to coincide with the Pixel 9 series, and it might be limited to just the Pro variant.

World-leading IT companies are adopting AI into their products. OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and Meta are racing to advance AI. Google launched Gemini, its most powerful large language model, a few days ago. With multimodal capacities, the large language model promised to be groundbreaking. While introducing Gemini, Google stated that the new LLM now drives Bard, and further updates are coming. According to sources, Google is developing Pixie, a Gemini-powered virtual assistant.

Google is developing Pixie AI assistant

Google uses Pixie, powered by the fundamental model, to personalize Google Assistant, according to The Information. It can be your assistant using Gmail, Maps, and other Google apps on your phone. Think of it as your digital sidekick who knows your coffee preference. The study states Pixie goes beyond responding to inquiries. It’s ready for difficult jobs like recommending the nearest store with that must-have item you just snapped a picture of. Pixie may also feature in Pixel 9 smartphones expected next year. Google released the Assistant with Bard in October.

Pixie appears to be a separate AI helper from Bard. While unveiling the new AI helper, Google stated it would be available to chosen testers in the coming months. The company added that the Bard-powered assistant would be an “opt-in experience”.

The tech company recently made Gemini available to developers and companies to exploit LLM powers. The Gemini Pro API offers AI tools, models, and infrastructure to developers and organizations. This allows Google Studio developers to access the Gemini Pro API, which Google Cloud Vertex AI makes available to corporations. Google released the Gemini Pro API and numerous new Vertex AI models to improve developers’ and enterprises’ toolkits. An updated Imagen 2 text-to-image diffusion tool, MedLM, a healthcare-specific foundation model available to US-based Google Cloud customers, and Duet AI for developers and security operations were announced.

Google encourages developers and corporations to use Gemini Pro for their unique applications, but the company also plans to refine the model in the next weeks and months. First-generation Gemini Pro is available through the Gemini API. Gemini Pro has a 32K text context window, with larger windows expected in future iterations. It is now free with usage constraints, but Google aims to charge competitively.

Gemini Pro’s SDKs are accessible in other coding languages, allowing new applications to use its features. Google Studio offers free Pro and Pro Vision with a 60-request-per-minute restriction, making it suitable for app development. Vertex AI users can try the same models with similar constraints for free until early 2024. Google announced Gemini Pro and Gemini Nano on the Pixel 8 Pro, with Gemini Ultra coming in 2024.
