In the last decade, IT businesses have tried to lower their carbon footprints by employing eco-friendly packaging, recycled metals, and renewable energy to power their production and assembly lines. As more smartphone manufacturers quit including chargers, we’ve seen extreme efforts to limit e-waste. Acer’s Vero laptops are the product of its drive to make “greener” computers. The first laptop unveiled in December 2021 was the Acer Aspire Vero. This is what we’ll evaluate today, although the business has also added other laptops, tiny PCs, a monitor, a wireless mouse, and accessories to its Vero range.

Vero is popular because it employs post-consumer recycled, or PCR, plastics. The whole chassis and frame around the display of the Aspire Vero are manufactured from 30% PCR materials, making them more recyclable. This review will examine the Aspire Vero, a mid-range laptop for casual productivity and multimedia needs.

Build quality

Recycled Acer Vero has a gray shell with yellow flecks. The paintless outer shell reduces hazardous chemicals. The design is striking, like cardboard or concrete. My laptop looks and feels great with its unique textured appearance, which may not suit everyone. Thin and square, the chassis measures 0.7 inches. Although Acer utilized recyclable materials for the chassis, it feels sturdy. Speaker cutouts and a big ventilation grill are on the bottom of the gadget. It also includes a wide vent between the lid and base to cool the system.

Webcam, keyboard, and touchpad

The chassis and keycaps of the Aspire Vero are 30% and 50% PCR plastic, respectively. With quiet, somewhat bouncy keys, the keyboard is pleasant. The 1.3mm key travel was perfect and didn’t impair my typing speed. The keyboard’s one-level illumination is sufficient for nighttime use, but multi-level would be better. Black kyes with white writing are easy to read. The huge (125mm x 80mm) touchpad is snappy and flawless. The fingerprint scanner is in the upper-left corner of the touchpad. The fingerprint scanner simplifies and secures logins. The top-mounted 720p camera on Vero is fine for video conferencing but has poor picture quality. Even in well-lit rooms, photos were loud and lacked details.

Speakers, screen

The laptop has a 15.6-inch, 1080p (16:9) IPS display with 250 nits and 170-degree viewing angles. You’ll like working on the laptop, but the graphics are lacking. Sharp text and images appear on screen. I noticed poor color reproduction in FHD videos. Direct sunshine makes the screen less visible, while darker periods are not dark enough. The Vero has Acer TrueHarmony stereo speakers. Speakers generate powerful, distortion-free sound. You’ll love video call audio clarity.

Performance

Acer Aspire Vero AV15

Featuring an 11th-generation Intel Core i5 CPU, 8 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB SSD, My powerful computer enabled me to use many programs. It handled MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, Chrome, and other productivity software well. Since most meetings are online today, I used Zoom and Google Meet for internal and external video sessions, which the laptop handled well. I had no speed slowdown when browsing the web and using productivity applications. After using the PC for almost a month, switching between programs and working longer hours was easy.

Specifications and software

Acer Aspire Vero AV15

As of this review, the Acer Aspire Vero only comes with an 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1135G7 quad-core CPU in India. Integrated Intel GPU. This laptop comes with 8GB or 16GB of DDR4 RAM. Acer claims the 8GB model’s RAM can be expanded to 12GB. The laptop’s base is secured in place with Philips screws, so removing it is easy. I found one RAM slot with a Samsung 4GB DDR4-3200 (1600MHz) RAM stick that can be swapped out. The second 4GB of RAM is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be replaced. A convenient 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD is also available. Even though it’s easy to reach these components, opening the laptop will void the warranty, so let an Acer service specialist execute any warranty updates. The Acer Aspire Vero sports dual speakers, a 720p webcam, and a 48WHr battery.

Verdict

The mid-range Acer Aspire Vero runs well and has few problems. It should attract eco-conscious shoppers trying to cut carbon emissions. This durable laptop has decent performance, a fair assortment of connectors, a brilliant display, and a comfortable keyboard. Battery life is acceptable but might be better. Its sole drawback is its weight, which might be troublesome if you travel a lot. The 8GB version’s market price of Rs. 57,999 is reasonable, but the Asus VivoBook 15 has comparable features and Intel’s 12th Gen CPUs for a similar price.
