HP DeskJet 3755 All-in-One Printer Review

As the adage goes, “Bigger is better,” but we all know that’s not always the case. Some of the greatest printers might have the opposite problem from time to time. This is the case with the HP DeskJet 3755, a compact printer that costs only $70 list price.

The 3755 isn’t the quickest or quietest inkjet AIO printer, but it includes Wi-Fi connectivity. However, HP claims this MFU is the world’s smallest, which will appeal to many buyers because they dislike bulky computer accessories.

Specifications and layout

We like the 3755 because of its size and its reasonable pricing. The unit is space-saving, measuring 15.86 by 6.97 by 5.55 inches when the input and output trays are folded. A 60-sheet input tray is in the back, and a 25-sheet output tray is in the front bottom. Its tiny footprint and 5.13-pound weight make it a convenient option wherever storage is at a premium.

Lack of controls. The ink level, Wi-Fi Direct connection, wireless status, signal strength, and fault circumstances are icons on a tiny, monochrome LCD. Indicators and buttons for connecting to HP’s Web Services and wireless networks surround the display. A 114-page user’s handbook is available for download and includes far more insight into utilising the features than the setup poster provided in the box.

The HP 3755 is designed for light-duty use, as seen by choice between normal and high-capacity (65XL) ink cartridges. It costs around $13 for a black pigment ink cartridge and about $14 for a tri-colour dye-based ink cartridge. The normal black pigment ink cartridge is rated to provide roughly 125 pages. That’s not a lot of copies from a single cartridge.

The high-capacity black and colour cartridges increase page yields to 300 pages, costing roughly $26 and $31, respectively. Even though these are XL cartridges, the output still needs improvement. It’s acceptable for occasional printing needs, but you’re better off investing in a higher-yield device. If you expect to print more than a few infrequent pages, the 3755 is compatible with HP’s Instant Ink program. This subscription service automatically sends you replacement ink before the printer runs out.

Preparation and Execution

Another benefit is that it can be set up quickly. Even though the 3755 comes with a disc with directions for setting it up, you have to go to HP’s support page to get the most current drivers. We chose to load the software from a disc, but it’s good to know that there’s another way for people whose computers don’t have disc drives. We used wifi to connect, but a USB cable will also work. HP’s ePrint cloud service lets you print from anywhere and on any device, as long as the printer is tied to a WiFi network with Internet access.

During the setting process, a simple screening program is set up. You can’t just lift the lid to scan a document with a flatbed scanner. Instead, you must put each page into the machine one at a time. When we tried the scanner, we got scans with true colours and amounts of saturation. Since the optical scan quality is 600 x 600 dpi, you can’t scan a small picture and have it printed very large.

Moderately Sluggish

The 3755’s lightning-fast speed did not surprise us. With our current test suite, the 3755 had the slowest print speeds for both our Word test page (4.3 ppm) and our whole business suite (1.4 ppm). (The closest related printer, the Epson Expression Premium XP-640 Small-in-One Printer, only printed 3.2 pages per minute (ppm) for all of our tests, but it wrote our Word test document at a blistering 9.5 ppm.

Photos take an average of 46 seconds to print on the 3755, which is slow but not the fastest speed we’ve seen from an inkjet. For comparison, each print on the Brother MFC-J6535DW, which costs $1,599.66 at Amazon, took an average of 1 minute and 25 seconds.

Affordable and compact, but slow

Regarding all-in-one printers, the HP Deskjet 3755 is an outlier. It’s in a league of its own because it’s compact, inexpensive, and well-made. The lack of an automatic document feeder (ADF), a flatbed scanner, a memory card slot, a USB connection, a fax modem, a touch screen, or a picture tray more than makes up for its slow printing speed and other benefits.

Due to its lack of features and relatively small input tray, the 3755 is best suited for occasional usage. Naturally, not everyone will enjoy it. However, it may be a good option if you’re searching for a compact, stylish, and budget-friendly printer for printing images from mobile devices.
