Andre was chosen to play the male lead in Shonda Rhimes’s drama The Residence, a Netflix special, in February, shortly before his death. The series was also starring Uzo Aduba and was about a White House murder mystery. Production had already begun but halted due to Hollywood’s strikes. Although Andre had filmed many of the scenes in the series, it was scheduled to resume filming in January 2024.
However, it is unclear how The Residence will proceed post his sudden death. In 1998, Andre won his first Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Homicide. He later won his second for his work on the 2006 mini-series, ‘Theif’. Additionally, he received other accolades including a Critics’ Choice Television Award and a Satellite Award.
