RX 580 Mobile is the laptop version of the desktop GPU. It uses a 14nm technology with a Polaris 20 chip, the successor to the RX 480’s Polaris 10. The Polaris 20 boosts the RX 580 mobile’s clock speed and power efficiency. Gaming laptops from many vendors use the RX 580 Mobile processor. The desktop RX 580 was a top 1080p GPU. Does the RX 580 Mobile have the same performance juice?  AMD RX 580 Mobile chipset gaming tests and benchmarks are included in this review. Also, we’ll examine who this chip is for and what devices use it now.

AMD RX 580 Mobile Review

RX 580 mobile debuted in laptops/notebooks in 2017. The desktop RX 580 was spreading out to all Nvidia cards. Thus, Red Team’s smaller RX 580 for gaming laptops was a wonderful idea.  AMD added 8GB GDDR5 video memory to this processor. This card has the same VRAM as the desktop version. This chip may have been AMD’s reaction to Nvidia’s GTX 1080 Max-Q from the same year. Nvidia still had a GTX 1080 Max-Q with greater clock speed and CUDA Cores for higher FPS.  The Mobile RX 580 uses less power than the conventional card. Red Team reduced its clock speed to save electricity.

Laptop graphics cards include AMD Radeon RX 580 Mobile. The Radeon RX 500 series uses Polaris architecture. The mid-range to upper mid-range RX 580 Mobile GPU is ideal for laptop gaming and graphics-intensive workloads.

Some major characteristics and details:

  1. Architecture: The Radeon RX 580 Mobile uses the Polaris architecture, which is efficient and fast in mid-range graphics cards.
  2. Processors, the: RX 580 Mobile has 2,304 stream processors. Graphics rendering uses stream processors for parallel computation.
  3. Core Clock: Laptop core clock speeds vary, although they usually fall within a range. GPU instruction processing speed depends on clock speed.
  4. Memory: It has GDDR5 memory. Common visual memory (VRAM) combinations are 4GB or 8GB. The typical memory bus width is 256 bits. A larger memory bus boosts memory bandwidth for graphics-intensive workloads.
  5. Memory Clock: The GPU’s memory clock speed, in megahertz (MHz), impacts data transmission speed. RX 580 Mobiles typically run at 2000 MHz (8 Gbps effective)
  6. Performance: The RX 580 Mobile performs well with 1080p games. Other aspects like laptop setup and cooling solution also affect gaming experience.
  7. Graphics Card: The graphics card supports DirectX 12 and Vulkan, making it compatible with the newest games and apps.
  8. Heat: Even while mobile GPUs are power-efficient, the RX 580 Mobile uses a lot of electricity. GPU-equipped laptops have cooling techniques to regulate heat.
  9. Manufacturers: Many laptop manufacturers provide AMD Radeon RX 580 Mobile laptops. Laptop characteristics and cooling methods vary per model.

Various laptops running the RX 580 Mobile have various clock rates and performance. New graphics card models may have been introduced after my last update. Check the laptop model’s specs or AMD’s website for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

Who Should Use RX 580 Mobile?

According to specifications and gaming benchmarks, laptops/notebooks with AMD Radeon RX 580 Mobile chipsets are best for playing older games at 1080p. This processor fails to attain 1080p 60fps in new games. Definitely no 4K gaming. The RX 580 Mobile can play games at 1080p low-medium, however, hyper settings may slow frame rates.  Again, we’ll blame AMD for not giving this GPU the clock speed it needs to enhance frame rates. For 1080p gaming, we’d choose an Nvidia laptop over an AMD RX 580. The RX 580 Mobile is best for content creation. Video editing and GPU-intensive content production are easy with this CPU. The RX 580 Mobile can play 4K movies smoothly. 4K gaming is a mess—don’t even consider it.
