The Gigabyte Aorus 15 sleeps. When closed, the powerful laptop’s lid barely reveals its gaming laptop status. The 2023 Aorus 15 has a 13th-Gen Intel Core i7 and Nvidia’s RTX 4070 mobile GPU. That GPU offers the Aorus access to Nvidia’s Frame Generation AI innovation, which employs Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) to boost game frames. (My benchmarks show 20 more frames per second).

Design and Features

Gigabyte Aorus 15 BMF

The Aorus 15’s modest design is initially noticeable. Per-key RGB and a flashing light bar under the display indicate it’s a gaming laptop. You can minimise or boost your gamer aesthetic with Gigabyte’s Control Centre. I liked RGB Rainbow Wave and found Pulse and Cycle annoying. The Aorus appears more like an actuary’s laptop when the lighting is dimmed, and the default background is changed. Camouflaged gaming laptops are great, but their designs are blah.

When closed, the Aorus is.82″ tall, but its blocky, angular chassis feels much thicker. Not exactly lightweight at 4.96 pounds. Both the metal top display and plastic base feel solid. The lid opens smoothly, and the plastic base is firm. The lid supports a 15.6-inch 2560×1440 display. At best, Gigabyte’s “Thin Bezel” frame is a stretch. The sides are little, the top is not, and the chin is huge. Windows Hello is available via the top bezel’s big camera array. Unfortunately, it’s not the best webcam. Unless the lighting is perfect, the image it records is generally darker than it should be, and increasing brightness barely impacts picture quality.

Video Game Performance

Gigabyte Aorus 15 BMF

No doubt, the Aorus 15 is powerful. I got 60+fps on Ultra in most games. Cyberpunk 2077 ran above 60 fps without DLSS Frame Generation, but with it on, it reached above 100. With vivid colours and contrast, the QHD Display is stunning. Playing at 165hz was seamless, and I never wanted a faster refresh rate. During daily use, the Aorus is silent. While viewing films, browsing the internet, or doing other daily duties, the fan noise is barely audible.

However, starting a game changes everything. Gaming fans are noisy, whether you’re playing Valheim or Vampire Survivors. The speakers’ tinniness and weakness amplify the fan’s humming. Gigabyte’s Control Centre lets you adjust fan speeds and noise. As with many high-end gaming laptops, the Aorus drains its battery quickly. We tested its 90WHr battery for four hours and 16 minutes in PCMark Modern Office. After modifying Gigabyte’s Control Centre software, we conducted the Modern Office test and got mixed results. The computer did seven hours and 33 minutes in one test. Unfortunately, that is the exception, and the battery only lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes while gaming.

Performance and software

As usual, the AORUS 15 line will have several configurations. Users can choose displays, CPUs (Intel Core i5-12500H to i7-13700H), and video cards (NVIDIA GeForce RTX4050 with 6 GB GDDR6 to RTX4070 with 8 GB). All models have two DDR5-4800 slots (up to 64 GB) and two NVMe PCIe Gen 4.0×4 drive slots. All variants provide three-band Wi-Fi 6E 2×2 and Bluetooth 5.2.

Pros and cons of Gigabyte Aorus 15 BMF

Price-effective performanceThe RTX 4050 is significantly inferior to the RTX 3060.

Verdict

Two laptops make up the Aorus 15. This laptop is a gaming powerhouse. Its inexpensive price and great performance will make you rethink your desktop. Its vibrant QHD display, strong fan, and quick storage enable intense gaming. However, its mushy keyboard, poor speakers, and inconsistent touchpad make it unsuitable for regular usage.
