Apple MacBook Air 13 Inch Reviews

Apple hasn’t given much love to the 13-inch MacBook Air in recent years, despite the fact that it basically compelled the competition to design an entirely new class of laptops. The current Air has a quicker new 5th-generation Core processor and faster flash storage, but it lacks the Retina display, revamped chassis, and interesting new features like the ForcePad available on every other Apple laptop. However, the Air is a great buy for the money because of its speedier performance and longer battery life (14 hours).

Just the guts, really. Intel HD Graphics 6000 (Iris graphics are reserved for the 13-inch MacBook Pro) and a Thunderbolt 2 port have been added to the 13-inch Air. Improved flash storage means the new Air will be twice as fast as the old one.

The Thinnest Mackbook!

Let’s start with the outside, which is where Apple has made the most changes. The MacBook Air looks both like past MacBook Air models (very thin and light) and like something new. The traditional wedge shape has been replaced with a body that is thin all the way around. The Air is one of the thinnest computers on the market. It is only 0.44 inches thick, and its light weight of 2.7 pounds makes it feel even smaller than it is.

Wiring & Charging

The MacBook Air still only has a few ports, but they have gotten a little better. The two USB Type-C/Thunderbolt 4 ports let you connect to almost any device. However, if you want to use a regular USB Type-A connection or an HDMI output, you will need an adapter or a USB-C docking station. It’s nice that there’s a 3.5mm port for headphones or speakers.

Since the last MacBook Air model, changes have been made to how MagSafe charging works. The magnetic plug comes off easily when pulled, which is great for ease and helps keep people from getting hurt by electrical cables. Even better, the MagSafe plug can be the same colour as your MacBook Air, and you won’t have to choose between charging the Air and using a USB-C port.

Music and Movies

The change to a 13.6-inch screen is another big change to the design of the Air. The Liquid Retina screen is brighter and has more contrast than earlier Air screens. Not only is the screen bigger, but we measured a maximum brightness of 514 nits, and it covers 99.99% of the P3 colour gamut. The screen is a big improvement for the MacBook Air, which has always seemed like a cutting-edge laptop with an old screen. But it has to deal with fierce competition. Unlike the MacBook Air and Pro, ultraportables like the Dell XPS 13 OLED (9310) and the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7 Carbon have really good OLED displays that can also be used as touch screens.

The Keyboard & Trackpad

Apple makes a point of saying that the 2022 MacBook Air has the same Magic Keyboard as the Pro models and has a full-size row of function keys across the top. Both the Touch Bar and the bigger regular keys make it different from the last model of MacBook Air, which had function keys that were half as big.

How important is size? Even though our tests haven’t shown much of an effect, probably Do you like the touch bar or the bigger feature keys better?

Even that is a matter of debate. Don’t forget that Apple’s 14-inch and 16-inch high-end MacBook Pros also don’t have a Touch Bar. This is probably on purpose by Apple’s makers. The power button on the keyboard has a Touch ID sensor built in. This lets you sign in without entering a password or PIN and makes Apple Pay purchases safer. Also, the Force Touch trackpad on the Air is bigger. It’s a little bit taller and wider, but it looks and feels the same as Apple’s high-end devices (smooth glass surface, haptic input).

Conclusion

The MacBook Air 2015 is a big step up from the one that came before it. You pay $999, and in return, you get more features and longer battery life. Even though the Air doesn’t have the new ForcePad, I still like the comfortable keyboard and accurate touchpad. But the notebook needs to be redesigned, and people should be able to get a screen that is more colourful and clear.

The Dell XPS 13 is $100 cheaper and has a cheaper, brighter 1080p screen. It is also lighter and has a more daring design for the frame. It is slower, and the battery only lasts for about 2 hours. If you don’t have to use Apple’s operating system, go with Dell’s laptop. If battery life is the most important thing to you, though, the new 13-inch Air is your best bet.
