Anchorman
The last player to play against the dealer when sat around a Blackjack table is known as an anchorman. This term is can be used in both in person and live Blackjack games.
Bankroll
The term bankroll is given to the amount of money a player has available to gamble with. This isn’t to be confused with a player’s total available cash amount, only the portion a player is willing to risk when playing a game of Blackjack.
Blackjack
Not only is this the name of the game, but it’s also the name that’s given to the perfect hand you may be dealt with in a game. It consists of an Ace and either a ten or a royal card, making a straight 21 valued hand.
Cold Deck
This is a phrase given to a deck of cards being used that seems to be spewing out bad cards – where no one is making a good valued hand, causing players to lose too much.
Discards
This is the name given to all cards in the deck that have already been played. These cards are placed to one side in a pile, until they are collected to be shuffled and reissued onto the casino floor.
Flat Betting
This is a term used to describe when a player wagers the same amount each time, hand after hand, consistently.
There is nothing wrong with being classed as a flat better, but many plays deem this as not being very adventurous.
Hit
If you feel like your hand could use another card, to help you get closer to 21, you simply need to ask the dealer to “hit” you with another card. If this card takes your hand value over 21, you lose.
You can ask the dealer to “hit” you until you either go over 21, or you feel another card may take you over 21.
Stand
When you’re happy with your hand and its value, whether this be straight after being dealt your two original cards or after adding a card or two, simply tell the dealer that you wish to “stand”.
By doing this, you indicate to the dealer that you require no further cards and that they can proceed with their own hand.
