System 76 will have come up in your study, whether you’re leaving Windows for a Mac or a Linux veteran looking for a new machine. The Pangolin is a “casually powerful” notebook that looks good and is part of its line of desktop and laptop computers. It looks good because it has a lot of ways to store things and a battery life of up to 10 hours.

AMD System

System76 Pangolin-

System76 has been making Linux computers longer than most of the big names it now fights with, and in most ways, it’s way ahead. The company’s first AMD laptop was the Pangolin line, which came out two years ago. The new model has a Ryzen 7 6800U processor, 32 GB of RAM, and up to 16 TB of SSD storage.

The model with 16 terabytes of space is not cheap. For an affordable $1,299, the base Pangolin comes with a single 250-gigabyte SSD and a spot for a second. At 16 terabytes, it will cost you $4,213 to get everything you need. Most people don’t need that much storage space, but I like that it has two drive spots because it gives you the option to improve in the future. I don’t like the 15-inch screen on this laptop because it’s too big for me, but if you like big screens and a 10-key number pad, the Pangolin is for you. The smooth screen on this laptop is a big plus because it cuts down on glare and makes it easier to read. The screen has a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and a frame rate of 144 Hz, which is also good for games. The Pangolin doesn’t have a 4K option like some of System76’s other computers, which is a shame.

Body and Style

System76 Pangolin-

The System76 Pangolin looks pretty sharp with its 15.6-inch 1920×1080 FHD, 144Hz, smooth display. Even though it looks big, it only weighs 3.95 pounds (1.79 kg), which is lighter than you might think. If you’re used to a bigger laptop, you’ll be surprised at how easy it is. Like many other gadgets, it’s charcoal black and has a blue LED around the power button. On the cap, the System76 logo is shown in white. Unlike some other companies that make Linux computers, they seem to take real pride in their gear. As is usual for computers, the bottom has different cooling measures. Since the Pangolin is a fairly high-end laptop, it is no surprise that it can get a bit warm. So, unless you live in the Arctic Circle, I wouldn’t suggest you put it on your knees.

Battery

Since this ultraportable laptop has a powerful AMD processor, you might think it will greatly affect the battery life. Surprisingly, that’s not true. On the System76 website, it says that the battery can last for up to 10 hours. However, I find it hard to work for that long without taking a break. With normal use (writing, reading, a little YouTube, and a few games), it took about 7 hours to drain the battery.

FAQs

Why do you want a laptop that runs Linux?

If you’re still reading, you’re probably interested in a laptop that runs Linux. So, sure, why not? We’re way past the point of putting Linux on old computers to make them last longer. Dell sells Linux laptops now, but the specs might not be right for you. Other companies with a bigger presence in the open-source space also sell Linux gear. Are you thinking about leaving Microsoft Windows or Apple Mac? Linux is the best replacement for both, but you probably already know that. You want to know if the System 76 Pangolin could be the Linux laptop you’ve always wanted.

What is System 76?

Carl Richell founded System76 in the early 2000s, and in 2005 it started shipping its first computers with Ubuntu on them. The company got a good name for supporting open source and the right to fix things. But the Linux community probably didn’t pay much attention to System76 until 2017, when it released Pop!_OS based on Ubuntu. The operating system can be used on almost any computer, but System76 hardware works best with it.
