Design And Price

Asus Tuf Fx505
The Asus Tuf Fx505 still has a “Radiating X-design” inspired by ROG. With its red exhaust fins and aggressive cuts on the lid, the design must be more complex for you to walk into a boardroom meeting. Many parts of this laptop’s design and construction must be discussed. When I first opened and used the laptop, I noticed that the outer shell of the lid flexed and that the hinges lifted unevenly. When opening the lid with one hand, the movement isn’t even, and the screen seems to bend slightly.

This is fine in how the thing is made, but a necessary choice—the MIL.STD810G rating means that the FX505 finally lives up to its “TUF” name. It means that the laptop has been tested to survive drops from up to 1 meter, and we also dropped it a few times to see if Asus was telling the truth. After the laptop survived three drops, we decided not to take any more chances. The softness or flexibility of the laptop’s lid and other parts lets it absorb the shock of a fall.

Display

Asus Tuf Fx505

The 15.6-inch Full HD IPS screen on the Asus Tuf Fx505 looks great and has a refresh rate of 120Hz. Since this is a 120Hz screen, everything on the laptop feels more natural and fluid. This laptop’s animations look nice and smooth, and games like Far Cry 5 are a lot of fun to play on it. Also, the display on this laptop can get bright or dim if you want it to.

Thanks to the anti-glare coating, you can use it outside or when light is shining directly on the screen, and you can also use it late at night without putting too much strain on your eyes. Overall, the FX505DT’s screen is a good one. It’s not the best at telling the difference between shades of black, which I found out when I put it through the black test. However, it’s good at showing gradients and won’t let you down for gaming and everyday use. At the very least, games look great on this panel.

Keyboard

Asus Tuf Fx505

The Asus Tuf Fx505 has a full-sized keyboard with enough space between each key. The WASD keys are made to be see-through to stand out, but this is more of a visual touch than a useful one. RGB is backlighting on the keys, but there are no zones. The keys are curved by 0.25mm to fit your fingers well and move 20mm. But with ROG’s Overstroke technology, the distance to action is cut in half. It means it takes little force to press a key, and the extra distance between keys makes the keyboard a joy to type on.

Storage

Asus Tuf Fx505

There are two drives in the Asus Tuf Fx505. The first is a 256GB Western Digital NVMe drive, and the second is a 1TB Seagate Firecuda SSHD drive. From now on, all base-level Asus gaming laptops will come with 256GB NVMe, and Asus already uses SSHD. The user can upgrade both drives, and the FX505 can take up to a 1TB NMVe drive and an 8TB SSHD. But if you decide to upgrade, you can’t do it yourself, or the warranty will be void. You can buy the parts yourself so that you can be sure that the new parts will work with the machine and not cause more problems.

Ports

Asus Tuf Fx505

Regarding ports and I/O, the Asus Tuf Fx505 has everything you might need and nothing more. There are two USB 3 ports, one USB 2 port, an HDMI 2.0 port, an RJ-45 ethernet port, and a 3.5mm headphone and mic combo port. That’s a good selection of ports; a laptop doesn’t need much more. However, the lack of a USB Type-C or Thunderbolt 3 port makes this laptop less future-proof than something more expensive.

FAQs

Asus Tuf Fx505 trackpad?

Anyone who has used or seen a TUF Gaming laptop previously will recognize the trackpad design on the FX505DT immediately. It’s essentially the same trackpad, which isn’t necessarily negative.

Asus Tuf Fx505 audio quality?

The FX505DT’s speakers can get loud without distorting, and while the bass isn’t amazing, they do a fair job overall. When I wanted to watch something on my laptop, I didn’t have to go hunting for a Bluetooth speaker because the sound quality of the speakers was good enough.
