Google Pixelbook Go Review
Google’s new Google Pixelbook Go, has two great features. The first is the keyboard, which is quiet and fun to type on. The second thing I like is that the battery lasts as long as or longer than any Intel laptop I’ve used recently. Those are the good things, but there are also many great things. It looks simple and doesn’t have a lot of extras. It has good speakers and a solid trackpad. The model I’m testing is quick and responsive because it has an Intel Core i5 Y-series processor. Almost everything about this laptop makes me want everyone to get it as their first Chromebook.
That is everything except the price. It starts at $649, and the model I’m testing costs $849. Comparable Chromebooks with the same features cost at least $100 less. So, what do you get for your money with the Pixelbook Go? Simplicity.

Price and Arrangements
We tested the Google Pixelbook Go with the Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage, which cost $849. The entry-level Core m3 model costs $649 and has the same amount of memory but only 64GB of storage space, which is $200 cheaper than our unit. There are more expensive models, with 16GB of RAM for $999 and a Core i7 processor, 256GB of storage, and a 4K screen for $1,399. But neither of those is on the market yet (just like the Not Pink colorway).
Design
The look of the Google Pixelbook Go has a lot going for it, but let’s talk about the big issue: It isn’t convertible, even though it seems like all Chromebooks should be 2-in-1s these days. The clamshell design helped keep the price down, but you can’t fold the screen back to turn the machine into a tablet, which makes Android apps feel less natural. As we’ve already said, this laptop’s frame is made of a magnesium alloy painted with a matte finish.
This, along with the rippled base, makes it easier to grip and hold, as promised by Google when moving between meetings or workspaces. We haven’t seen a Chromebook frame that can stand up to pressure and bend as well as this one. And boy, does Google use every inch of that frame. The keyboard on the Google Pixelbook Go is one of the best we’ve ever used on a laptop.
This is an improvement on Google’s “Hush” design, which brings the company’s original silent Pixelbook keys to this more reasonable price point. This laptop keyboard has the best mix of silence and vital feedback we’ve ever seen.

Battery Life
The local video playback test for the Chromebook took 11 hours and 14 minutes. The MacBook Air 2019 was an hour and 14 minutes short of that goal. This is very close to the number Google said it would last, 12 hours. When it came out, almost no laptop could last that long. This shows how beneficial it is for these companies to tune their hardware and software together.
Programs and Functions
One of the best things about Chromebooks is that they usually all have clean installations of Chrome OS, and the Google Pixelbook Go is, of course, the purest of all. But this also means that this laptop doesn’t have any software or features that are truly unique that other Chromebooks don’t already have. We like that we can use Google Assistant with either our voice or the keyboard, but this is something that almost every other modern Chromebook also has. If there’s one thing that makes this Chromebook stand out in terms of features, it’s the sharp 1080p webcam. It doesn’t often happen on some of the most expensive laptops.
FAQs
The display of the Google Pixelbook Go?
Google wisely didn’t skimp on the Pixelbook Go’s 13.3-inch display, which delivers sharp details (1080p version tested) and vibrant, saturated colors.
Listening to music on a Google Pixelbook Go?
The Pixelbook Go produces a respectable amount of sound for its size, but the audio quality isn’t terrific, as I realized as I listened to “For Whom the Bell Tolls” by Metallica on the laptop.
Battery life of the Google Pixelbook Go?
The Google Pixelbook Go has longer battery life than the standard Pixelbook. During our battery life test (continuous web browsing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits), the Go lasted 11 hours and 29 minutes, easily outlasting the 9:31 category average, the 9:51 time from the HP Chromebook 15.
