The Canon TS6420a (TS6350a in the UK, TS6360a in Australia) is the subject of this review. The TS6420 (USA), TS6350 (UK), and TS6360 (Australia) don’t have Bluetooth, but this review is the same for them. The best all-in-one printers have flatbed scanners for scanning and copying. They’re popular in homes, schools, and small offices because they combine these roles. Canon thinks its PIXMA TS6420a’s two paper feeds, automatic output tray, WiFi, five inks, automatic 2-sided printing, and 1.44″ OLED display will set it apart.

Features

Canon Pixma TS6420a Wireless

Canon’s PIXMA TS6420a all-in-one printer can print up to A4 size at 4800×1200 dpi, generate borderless 10x15cm prints, and scan at 1200×2400 dpi. For rich, deep shadows and crisp, clear lettering, a five-ink system uses Magenta, Cyan, Yellow, Black, and Pigment Black. Canon’s ChromaLife 100 certification guarantees 100-year prints. Canon’s FINE technology ensures each cartridge has a new inkjet nozzle, reducing maintenance. With two paper trays, you can load the front cassette with 100 plain A4 sheets and the back input tray with 100 more or 20 glossy photo sheets. If you print often and use various paper kinds, you can load both paper feeds and set them aside until you need to refill either supply. The TS6420a prints double-sided automatically, saving time and energy. Canon claims the two-way paper feed allows for creative experimentation. Iron-on transfers and double-sided matte paperwork too.

Print quality

Canon Pixma TS6420a

Canon rates this Pixma at 13 monochrome and 7.8 color ppm. Six seconds per page (or just under 10 seconds for a color print) may not seem slow, but when you’re waiting for a dozen-page print job, it feels like forever. Our Intel Core i5 testbed running Windows 10 Pro tested the TS6420 over USB. Our 12-page Microsoft Word text document printed at 13.2 ppm, faster than its rating. That score was average among these AIOs. Next, I produced many full-color Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint business documents with charts, graphs, graphics, and embedded pictures. I combined these results with those from printing the 12-page Word document to generate a score for printing our entire test suite. The TS6420 managed a sluggish 4.5 ppm, which was average among these entry-level AIOs. The TS6420 printed our vibrant, detailed 4-by-6-inch photos in 39 seconds. The TS6320 took 20 seconds for each snapshot.

Price and warranty

Canon Pixma TS6420a

Amazon sold the TS6420a for $69. The RRP was $159.99. Canon offers a one-year US guarantee and a two-year UK warranty. It employs five ink cartridges—Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, and Pigment Black—for sharp writing and deep shadows. Canon’s regular C, M, Y, and BK 581 inks cost $15.99, and the last 99 photos, cost $0.16 per print. The regular PGBK pigment black cartridge, which costs $17, produces sharp text and lasts 200 pages at $0.09 per page. XXL inks cost $30 each and the last 322 pages, cost $0.09 per photo print. The $30 XXL PGBK cartridge prints 600 pages at $0.05 per print. If you can afford them, XXL cartridges are a better value. Though your mileage may vary, especially if you don’t print often and need to use gobs of ink to unclog blocked ink nozzles, XL cartridges are between standard and XXL, offering better value than standard inks but less yield than XXL. Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II produced the sharpest and brightest photographs. This high-quality paper costs $0.80 per page in a 20-pack, which costs $16.

Do We Buy?

Canon Pixma TS6420a

Canon’s PIXMA TS6420a, an all-in-one printer, delivers crisp text, great photos, a scan and copy function, automatic double-sided printing, an OLED LCD display, and an easy-to-use app. The rear input tray and front-loading paper cassette are fragile. However, it’s cheap, so we’re willing to compromise. Our documents and photographs were high-quality despite the short print times. The text was sharp, almost like a laser printer, and the photos were colorful and sharp with a great range of depth and colors, especially when using Canon’s exclusive glossy paper, which is expensive but worth it.

Inkjet printers, including the TS6420a, require frequent use to prevent print head blockage. Blockages can reduce print quality and waste expensive ink trying to flush them. The TS6420a is a good choice if you want to print loads of documents for school, university, or business and images for family albums or your photography portfolio. Canon’s PIXMA TS6420a has a lot to adore, from its intuitive and easy-to-use interface to its broad feature set in a compact machine with excellent text and photo printing!
