Things are rumored to be happening at Nothing, the London tech startup created by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei. Nothing was rumored to be working on the next-gen Nothing Ear (3), coming early next year. There were rumors about a cheaper Nothing Phone (2a) in development, and its launch date may be short.

The brand’s most recent smartphone release was the Nothing Phone 2, while rumors about a new device have been circulating for some time. The Nothing Phone 2 was originally a premium phone but has now had its price slashed; thus, this new model, codenamed “2a,” is likely to be a more budget-friendly alternative. Nothing is known about Nothing’s forthcoming smartphone, despite reports and leaks to the contrary. Still, hints have begun to surface, which is par for the course for the brand.

The latest one seems to be following suit as well. Tipster Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) was the first to notice that Nothing’s official X handle has not released a teaser. Subtly hinting that “something is coming this week,” the platform’s modified page description serves as the teaser. The Nothing Phone 2a, which has been circulating rumors recently, could be the best option for us. The product was previously mentioned about its appearance on the certification website of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). It is common practice to launch a product in India as soon as it is listed. The product was categorized under the A142 model number. The source claims that the number is comparable to the AIN142 model number of the purported Nothing Phone 2a, but that it may have been altered to reflect its Indian form.

An earlier article also included a picture of the Nothing Phone 2a. In terms of design, the hazy product image looked remarkably similar to the current devices, with the same Glyph lighting scheme. The same source also hinted at the screen size, with 6.7 inches of AMOLED supposedly being the norm.

Since this is not going to be the Nothing Phone 3, but rather the Nothing Phone 2a, we can assume that it will have stripped-down hardware that is similar to, or even the same as, the Nothing Phone 1, with a low price tag to match. Another possibility is that it’s just a renamed Nothing Phone 1 with some cosmetic tweaks.

Flipkart, an Indian store, has been informing customers that the phone is “out of stock” for some time now, despite offering steep discounts that brought the price down to less than Rs. 25,000.

With the recently released Phone 2’s basic pricing reduced to a still expensive Rs. 39,999 from its initial launch price of Rs. 44,999, nothing could potentially target two smartphone groups with this move.

In terms of boosting sales, the original phone’s pricing strategy—a mid-range handset—did nothing. Launched in India at Rs. 32,999, the Nothing Phone 1 was highly desirable at the time due to its Qualcomm CPU, IP-rating, and wireless charging capabilities.
