A Razer laptop has something that everyone will like. From the Blade 14, which is small and easy to carry, to the Razer Blade 17, which is big and strong, they will almost certainly make your friends jealous. But if you have a lot of money and want a desktop-replacement gaming laptop for high-end games or content creation, we highly recommend the Razer Blade 17.

Design

Razer Blade 17 2022

Razer hasn’t changed its designs much in a long time, and there’s a good reason for that. It looks professional thanks to the jet-black polished metal finish, and the bright green logo on the lid keeps it from looking like a boring office laptop. But even though the black finish looks good right out of the box, it looks dirty after a while. I’ve already touched every part of the top and bottom of the gadget. It’s easy to clean up with a cloth, but it’s still annoying and has been a problem for a long time with Razer computers.

People often say gaming laptops are too big, but the Razer Blade 17 2022 is only 19.9mm thick, which is small for a 17-inch laptop. The Razer Blade 17 weighs a back-breaking 2.75kg, so that doesn’t mean it’s light. Even 2-kg laptops are too heavy for regular travel, and the Razer Blade 17 is so severe that you’ll probably only be able to use it at home as a desktop replacement. But that’s the trade-off you’ll have to make if you want to buy a 17-inch gaming laptop with these features.

Display

Razer’s 17-inch screen has a lot of different features. You can choose between Full HD, QHD, and 4K; the speed goes from 144 Hz to 360 Hz. It’s a shame that there’s no OLED option in 2022, but that’s rare for gaming computers. The picture quality blew me away when I played games on the Razer Blade 17. Bright and lively colours fill the screen. Our colourimeter showed that the brightness was above average and that the contrast was an excellent 1140:1.

When I watched the Thor: Love and Thunder movie on my laptop, I was amazed at how it could show many bright colours and still look real without being too saturated. The Razer also has a great range of colours. Our colourimeter scored 99% in sRGB, 83% in sRGB, and 97.50% in DCI-P3. These are professional results, which means they can show things like digital art, pictures, and videos in the best way possible. So, the Razer Blade 17 is a good choice for people who make content, and it’s also an excellent alternative to Apple’s MacBook Pro.

Performance

The Razer Blade 17 can be set up in many ways, from the basic Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU to the mighty Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti. It also comes with either 16GB or 32GB of DDR5 RAM and an Intel Core 12th Generation (Alder Lake) processor, which are both very new and powerful. Everything you could want is in a game machine. Razer sent us a trial model with 32GB of RAM, an Intel Core i7-12800H CPU, and an Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti GPU. That’s the best combo you can get. Only an i9 Intel chip could make it better. Benchmark tests showed that this game laptop is the most powerful I’ve ever used. It beat the ROG Zephyrus M16 2022 and the Alienware x17 R2 computers with a multi-core Geekbench 5 score of 13,144 and a 3DMark Time Spy score of 12,671.

Battery Life

Even though the Razer Blade 17 is fast, it has a bad battery life because of how fast it is. When the lighting was turned down to 150 nits and a PCMark 10 test that simulated everyday office work was turned on, the Razer Blade 17 only lasted 2 hours and 55 minutes. That’s one of the worst results I’ve seen from a game laptop, but most people will only get two or three more hours out of it. It also doesn’t come as a surprise because the Razer Blade 17 is made of high-quality parts. Since this laptop is too big to carry around, it is best to keep it always plugged in. If you try to play games with the battery instead, the game will work much worse.

Features and Price

Razer Blade 17 2022

As assumed, the parts inside the Razer Blade 17 make it a performance-focused laptop monster. This one is one of the best gaming computers you can buy right now. It has an RTX 3080 Ti GPU, a 14-core Intel i7 processor from the 12th generation, and 32GB of next-generation DDR5 RAM. We were sent this model to test. It has a 1440p, 240Hz screen and costs an eye-popping $3,999.99. There are a few different models. The cheapest one changes the GPU and memory to an RTX 3060 and 16GB of DDR5, but it still costs $2,799.99.
