Dell Inspirion 16 Plus 7620 Review

The Dell Inspiron 16 Plus (late 2022) is more like a small update built on Intel 12th Gen and Nvidia 30-series parts than a major redesign. The Inspiron 16 Plus is a 16-inch tweener laptop that is thin and can handle all of your work needs. It can also make content and games, making it a well-balanced and attractive laptop. The Dell Inspiron 16 Plus seems to be designed to appeal to a wide range of buyers by giving you a little bit of this and a little bit of that. It’s neither a real workplace nor a gaming laptop, but it can do a little of both. It’s a jack of all trades but a master of none, which might be great for your needs.

The touchpad

The number pad from last year’s model is one of Dell’s biggest changes to this year’s model. I don’t miss having a numpad, and I like that the keyboard is in the middle of the screen. What I don’t like is how the keyboard bends under my fingers as I type. As we found with the last model, the keyboard deck bends too much. Touch typists will like the short travel of the flat keys, but the keys feel a bit soft, which is made worse by the flex of the keyboard deck. The touchpad also got a new version. It now has borders on only three sides instead of all four. The top edge blends in with the rest of the keyboard deck. The touchpad has a rough finish that makes it easy to move, and it tracked my swipes and other mouse movements correctly. The click response felt stiff and took too much effort to engage, especially at the top. The show is the same as it was last year. It has a 3K (3,072×1,920) screen and is 16 inches (16:10). Images and text look very clear, but the brightness level of 300 nits and the speed rate of 60 Hz may make potential buyers think twice.

Set up

The dark green color with silver flecks gives it a clean, modern, simple look with a touch of color. A black Dell logo is on the back of the Inspiron 16’s lid. There are holes at the back of the laptop for heat to escape. Dell’s XPS line has done well with this design and doesn’t hurt the Inspiron. But the 16 Plus doesn’t stand out; maybe that’s on a plan. Like everything Dell makes, its simplicity results from a lot of thought. Hidden in the small border is a webcam with a manual privacy cover that is barely visible. If you look down toward the keyboard deck, you’ll see a simple speaker grill, followed by a large keyboard that fits well in the large deck and gives your hands plenty of room. Under the keyboard is a big, button-free screen that is 3.1 x 4.5 inches. When you open the laptop, the hinge lifts the back, putting the deck and keyboard at the best angle for typing. It doesn’t happen all the time, but it’s always welcomed.

Safety and Comfort

Dell protects the Inspiron 16 Plus with a fingerprint reader and a camera that works with Windows Hello. There is also a real shutter on the FHD monitor to keep prying eyes out. You can also try McAfee Life Saver for free for 30 days, and Windows Defender protects against viruses and malware.

Tests of Productivity

The major test of UL’s PCMark 10 mimics a number of real-world efficiency and content-creation processes.
