As AI becomes the 2023 buzzword, more corporations are joining the race. Meta is unique in employing generative AI for mass-market products like Instagram. According to Ahmad Al-Dhale, Meta’s lead for generative AI, the business is launching a new AI media editing tool dubbed ‘Backdrop’ to Instagram due to its advances. At first, Backdrop will only be available to US Instagram users. This utility lets you change your image’s backdrop with a few taps. Like ChatGPT, prompts in generative AI technologies do this. Ahmad says “chased by dinosaurs” and “surrounded by puppies” work, but you can enter anything, like unicorns, several cars, and more.

U.S. Instagram users got its generative AI-powered background editing tool Wednesday.

Snapchat unveiled an AI-generated image creator and sender for paying users last week. In August, the firm introduced Dreams, letting customers create imaginative self-portraits with varied themes. Snapchat+ users could create prompt-based backgrounds earlier this year. Meta added 28 AI-powered characters to WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram for U.S. users earlier this month, along with Bing search and an improved context pane. Using its Emu concept, the business created Imagine with Meta, a standalone AI-image generator.
