Apple is researching ways to communicate data and authenticate MagSafe-attached accessories wirelessly. According to AppleInsider, Apple’s freshly issued patent application, “Accessory Devices That Communicate With Electronic Devices,” may help the iPhone maker improve MagSafe.

MagSafe accessories charge and magnetically attach to iPhone 12 and later devices. Depending on the first-party cover or MagSafe charger, iPhone animations vary. Apple wants to enhance this feature. Processor advancement improves electrical device processing speeds but increases heat.

Here Is What A User States:

Let’s discuss how Apple can distinguish between MagSafe cases and chargers and play different animations. Apple credits “a magnetic field sensor configured to detect a magnetic field from a magnetic assembly external to the housing.” It can “compare the magnetic field detected by the magnetic field sensor with a predetermined magnetic field.” Thus, an iPhone can distinguish products and play animations accordingly.

Apple later stated in the patent filing that it is adding information recognition. “The accessory device may also include a wireless communication circuit that is disposed of in the bottom wall,” Apple says. Apple said that the wireless communication circuit may be designed to transfer information to the portable electronic device after magnetic field vector authentication. Apple might use this approach to tell iOS about tolerances and accessory matching. This patent could also let it wirelessly access peripheral data to authenticate and identify it.

Apple may incorporate this, but they’re likely searching for methods to make MagSafe more useful than magnets and wireless charging. It will be interesting to observe how this works in practice. Apple claims to be researching ways to communicate data and authenticate MagSafe-attached gadgets wirelessly.

AppleInsider reports that Apple’s newly awarded patent application, “Accessory Devices That Communicate With Electronic Devices,” may help the iPhone maker improve MagSafe. Only Apple iPhone 12 and later can charge and magnetically attach MagSafe accessories. The animations for iPhones vary by first-party case or MagSafe charging. Apple is thinking of expanding this feature.

Additions to processor technology increase processing rates for electronic gadgets but also heat the device. An iPhone can distinguish products and play animations accordingly. Apple extends the approach by adding information recognition later in the patent filing. Apple writes, “The accessory device may also include a wireless communication circuit that is disposed of in the bottom wall.” Apple stated, “The wireless communication circuit may be configured to transmit information to the portable electronic device after magnetic field vector authentication.”
