Zac Efron Reveals an Emotional Moment
The High School Musical star opens up about working on a new project where he plays wrestler Kevin Von Erick, where the hug from his co-star while filming was much needed.
The Hug
Zac Efron, in a recent update, reported how he was deeply affected by his new role, wrestler Kevin Von Erick which he is playing for his upcoming project The Iron Claw. Playing the character as a professional wrestler took a heavy toll on Efron, both physically and mentally, as he had to recreate wrestling fights, and spent most of his downtime lifting weights.
His character demands that he be in good shape while also being repressive about his emotions.

However, it was during the filming of the first date scene between Efron’s character and Lily James’ character, that he realised how much he needed a hug. In the scene, James’ character, Pam comforts Zac’s character, Kevin who reveals that his older brother died in an accident when he was just five years old. In the scene, as the character demands, Kevin keeps on saying it’s fine and tries to repress his emotion, but Pam gets out of the seat to give a hug to Kevin. pam’s unconditional love and warmth seem to have a profound effect on Efron’s character as well as on himself.
In a joint interview with James, Efron said to The Associated Press “It felt very needed, that hug, It was the first time I’d embraced anyone in months without it being a fake punch, or someone trying to submit me or get me to tap out.”
