Singer-Songwriter Patti Smith’s Italy Show Cancelled due to ‘Sudden Illness’

This week, Patti Smith was reportedly rushed to the hospital with a “sudden illness,” forcing her to postpone her performance in Italy.

The 76-year-old singer-songwriter’s performance at Bologna’s Duse Theatre on Tuesday, December 12, was abruptly canceled.

The Italy news source states that after becoming ill, Smith was brought to the Maggiore hospital in Bologna and placed under observation.

The Duse Theatre released an English-language press release stating, “With great regret, we inform the kind audience that Patti Smith’s concert will be postponed because he was not able to go on stage due to a sudden illness that hit the artist.”

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this news has caused. The artist has our best wishes for a quick recovery. Smith was scheduled to play at the Teatro Malibran in Venice on Thursday, December 14, as part of an eight-show Italian tour; however, it is not yet known if the show will take place. Her final performance took place on Monday, December 11, at the Duomo di Siena in Siena.

The artist shared a post on her story in favor of reproductive rights on her Instagram page today, December 13.

In 2022, the musician published her book A Book of Days, which is comprised of 366 photos that chronicle her life both “on and off the road” over 12 months. The book was inspired by her Instagram account.

The rock star gained notoriety last year when Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and Amazon Music removed her contentious song Rock n Roll N****r, which came out alongside the Patti Smith Group’s 1978 album, Easter. In earlier interviews, she claimed that she employed the disparaging term “to reinvent it like the kids did with the word punk.”
