The famous plush velour ear cups are one of the things that have made the DT PRO line so easy to spot over the years. As comfortable as they look, these headphones work with the sturdy spring steel headband to mould quickly to the sides of your head, cradling your ears and ensuring you can wear them for long periods without any problems. This is a very important factor for anyone looking for a headphone they can use to mix on.
The 770 PRO is mostly made for programming, tracking, and monitoring, while the 990 PRO is for referencing, mixing, and mastering. This is shown by the open-back design of the 990 PRO. All open-back headphones tend to leak sound, making them less for recording with microphones. However, letting air flow through the back of the shell is supposed to help give a more open, natural soundstage and bigger stereo image when you finish your mixes.
Sound
The Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones are open-back studio headphones, which we already said at the start of the study. So, they give you great sound in three dimensions. The form of the sound is a V. For an open-back design, the bass is very strong. It is not too strong, though. The high bump is strong and makes the music sound sharp.
The lows and highs are clear, and the mids are not too loud. The Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones sound better than some of the best surround sound headphones. Still, you can connect the headphones to one of the best headphone amps on the market if you want more power.
Style and Comfort
The words “Beyerdynamic” and “comfort” mean the same thing. Yes, you are correct. All Beyerdynamic headphones have a soft, plush feel to them. And the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones didn’t make us feel any different. The circumaural headphones have a bendable strap with soft padding and soft ear pads so you can comfortably listen to music. The cups for the ears are big.
The ear pads feel smooth and soft, like silk. When we tried the headphones in the winter, we had no problems with sweating. In the summer, however, you may have problems with overheating. The collar is mostly spring steel, and the ear cups are mostly plastic. Still, the plastic is strong and of the highest quality. Overall, the locking force is both too light and too strong. It’s just right and won’t give you a headache if you use the headphones for several hours, even when mixing, finishing, or recording in the studio.
Noise Isolation
Since the back of the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones is open, they do not block out outside sounds. Also, at normal settings, these headphones let a little sound out. No one else in the area complained about the music from our headphones. But when the level is turned up, the sound can leak out.
Usage
Professional headphones are the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones. Because of this, you can mix, edit, and record with them in the studio. For studio use, we put these headphones on different desks. The Beyerdynamics DT 990 Pro Headphones were also used to listen to music, watch TV, and play games.
There are two types of these headphones, each with a different impedance: 80 Ohms and 250 Ohms.
On the one hand, the 80 Ohms type can be used for a wide range of studio tasks; they are very flexible. The 250 Ohms type, on the other hand, is made for professionals. The studio is the best place to use the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 Ohms Headphones for mixing and finishing.
Gaming
One of our team’s gamers used a portable gaming headset and was pretty happy with it. But he wants to avoid looking back after using the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones for games. He says these headphones are much better than many high-end game speakers. We asked him if the open-back design was a game problem, and he said, “He uses the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones in a quiet environment and doesn’t feel the need to buy closed-back headphones.”
The physical sound that these headphones give off is important for games. If there’s one thing these headphones are missing, it’s a microphone. The headphones don’t have a built-in microphone, so you’ll have to buy one separately. The Antlion Audio ModMic Uni Attachable Noise-Canceling Microphone can be a good choice. It has a stop button and works with Mac, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC.
Last Words
The Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro review showed that the headphones are comfortable, long-lasting, strong, and not too expensive. It’s not easy to find headphones with such amazing sound quality that cost so little. You can listen to music or apps, watch TV, record in a studio, or play games with Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones. The headphones are one of the most comfy and useful recording headphones on the market.
